Think about it.
We didn’t ask to be born into your family.
You didn’t choose your skin color, body.
No one selected their race, gender, zip code, economic starting point, or the language spoken in your home, or what holidays you celebrated. All of that? It was handed to you as a child.
You didn’t choose the blueprint.
It was given to you.
Passed down.
Handed over.
Sometimes with love, sometimes with pain.
Other times wrapped in tradition, some into systems already stacked against us.
Many times soaked in trauma.
Although, some of us were born into warmth and into people who made space for our voices, our questions, our softness.
Others? Born into cold. Into silence. Into houses that had rules louder than conversation.
Some were born into chaos into instability, into fear, into broken systems that were already breaking our parents, and our parents’ parents.
Moreover, here’s the kicker:
Despite all that variation all that inherited context, we’re all expected to function inside the same world.
Same laws,
School curriculums
Job interviews
Courtrooms
Performance reviews and lastly,
Social expectations.
There are!
No adjustment for where you started.
Not even a pause button to catch up.
No real accommodations for being handed a heavier load.
What does that create?
It creates people who look like they’re “behind” when really, they’re carrying more.
This creates judgment before understanding.
The issue is that it creates a society where privilege hides behind the illusion of merit.
Life isn’t fair, however, understanding this is the first step to changing how we walk through it together.
We are more alike than we are different.
And the sooner we accept that truth,
the sooner we can start living like it!
